NABABAHALA ang isang senador na mas maraming foreign workers ang nagtatrabaho sa mga special economic zones sa bansa kung ikukumpara sa mga Filipino kung kaya’t panahon nang amyendahan ang Presidential Decree No. 442, o ang Labor Code of the Philippines.

Ayon kay Senador Joel Villanueva, chair ng Senate Committee on Labor, Employment and Human Resources Development, dapat na mas bigyan prayoridad ng mga employers ang mga Filipino workers sa halip na unahin ang mga dayuhang manggagawa.

Nais nitong iaatas sa may 80 porsiyentong Filipino employers na mas maraming Filipino ang kuhaning manggagawa.

“Since 2016, incidents of illegal foreign workers entering our special economic zones caused an uproar due to the grave disproportionality of foreign workers to Filipino workers,” ayon sa senador.

“This mandatory protection will guarantee that Filipinos will always have a fighting chance despite the rapidly shrinking global economy. The State must always uphold and uplift the rights of the Filipino laborer,” sa inihain nitong Senate Bill 1508, o an “Act Mandating the Requisite Proportion of Filipino Laborers to Foreign Workers.”

Paliwanag pa nito na base sa datos ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), ang  unemployment rate sa Philippine working population ay nasa 5.2 porsiyento simula Enero 2019.
